Key Responsibilities

  • Lead & Mentor: Manage and develop the electrical estimating team, fostering their growth and expertise in complex energy projects.
  • Strategic Bid Management: Develop and implement winning commercial strategies for bids, specifically for power, transmission, and renewables projects.
  • Estimate Production: Oversee the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for HV systems, substations, grid connections, and renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Technical & Commercial Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of complex tender documents, technical specifications, market conditions, and supply chain pricing for electrical components.
  • Risk & Value Management: Lead major tender reviews, comprehensive risk assessments, and value engineering initiatives specific to electrical infrastructure.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Project Delivery, and Procurement teams to align estimating strategies with overall business goals.
  • Client Engagement: Present compelling and articulate tender submissions and commercial proposals to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Process Improvement: Implement and leverage advanced estimating software and technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy in electrical estimating.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, market rates, and regulatory changes impacting the UK power, transmission, and renewables sector.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive Experience: Proven track record (typically 8+ years) in a senior electrical estimating or leadership role within the Power, Transmission, or Renewables sector in the UK.
  • HV & Substation Expertise: Demonstrable exposure to and strong understanding of High Voltage (HV) systems and substations.
  • Leadership Acumen: Experience in managing and mentoring an estimating team.
  • Commercial Prowess: Exceptional commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills for large-scale electrical infrastructure.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail on complex electrical schematics and designs.
  • Communication: Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in advanced estimating software and data analysis tools relevant to the electrical and energy sectors.
  • Qualifications: A relevant degree in Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional membership (e.g., CEng, MICE, MRICS) is highly desirable.
