Job description

Electrical Engineer HV (High Voltage)

Selby, North Yorkshire YO8

GBP depending on experience but extremely competitive

Commutable from Leeds, Doncaster, York, Goole, East Riding, Beverley or Pocklington

40-hour week Monday Friday 08:00-16:30 plus rota based on-call system

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Site Electrical Engineer with power generation experience to join an established team, where all electrical and control systems are designed and managed onsite. The individual will play an integral role in ensuring the site's electrical/power requirements are met, whilst developing safe systems of work, and developing the skills of the team. In addition, you will provide support to the maintenance team to ensure optimal efficiency of the site.

What you will be doing

  1. Performing Senior Authorised Person (SAP) duties up to and including 11KV.
  2. Duty Holder for all LV & HV electrical systems.
  3. Point of reference for site and responsible for the operation and repair of large-scale CHP (21MW installed capacity).
  4. Reviewing, improving, and implementing electrical safety standards in compliance with applicable regulation.
  5. Liaise with the internal project team and contracted service providers.
  6. Point of reference for site and responsible for the operation and repair of HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, power factor correction, variable speed drives (up to 1 MW) and other electrical equipment.
  7. Work with the electrical maintenance engineering team on fault finding diagnosis into operational defects and in developing solutions.
  8. Support the ongoing development of the computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) Mainsim.
  9. Managing electrical inspections and testing, ensuring all documentation is completed and up to date under DSEAR.
  10. Support the mechanical maintenance team as required with isolations and integration of new plant.
  11. Undertake other duties as reasonably requested.

What skills and experience do you need

  1. Hold a minimum of HNC level in Electrical Engineering and the ability to demonstrate suitable experience in a similar role.
  2. Currently holding SAP or AP status and seeking to progress to Authorising Engineer in the future.
  3. Good working knowledge of electrical equipment and systems (protection systems, HV switchgear, electrical generating plant, HV/LV transformers, control systems).
  4. Proven experience in an operational, maintenance or construction environment, with a bias towards power generation.
  5. Experience with fault diagnosis and developing solutions.
  6. Knowledge of current electrical legislation.
  7. Strong computing skills including MS Office, Windows 10.
  8. Competent team player with excellent communication skills.
  9. Ability to share knowledge and mentor others/juniors as applicable.
  10. Excellent organisational skills.
