Job description

Electrical Hardware Engineer

We are looking for enthusiastic & experienced engineers to join our client's existing Energy team to perform all aspects of E, C & I design and implementation. The role includes designing electrical and control systems focused on PLC-based control panels, including cabling, MCCs, Drives & Controls, Switchgear, and related EC & I equipment, primarily within the thermal and hydro power generation sector, although work in other sectors may be undertaken. The role requires the ability to undertake site surveys, develop electrical engineering solutions for cabling, undertake control panel designs, and prepare, review, and check necessary calculations and designs while following company procedures. Travel will be involved, with some short periods away at customer sites for surveys and collaborative solution design.

Summary of Role:
  • Lead and drive the project team
  • Review and approve designs developed by the team
  • Ensure team compliance with procedures, methods, and standards in engineering design responsibilities
  • Interpret and verify customer data, specifications, and drawings
  • Lead/system design development from customer information
  • Create/modify Design Packs, including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics, wiring diagrams, and site cable drawings
  • Produce client design and test documentation
  • Generate necessary documentation supporting system production, such as FDS, Test Documentation, Manuals
  • Lead site surveys and assist in Health and Safety documentation preparation
  • Support site acceptance testing and commissioning
  • Assist in producing tender documents and cost estimates
Essential Skills:
  • Experience and competence in control systems within the energy or similar utility market
  • Experience in field cabling systems, including surveying, route identification, cable sizing, and earthing/protection calculations
  • Experience in control panel design with PLC, I/O, communication cards, UPSs, etc.
  • Degree or HND in a relevant subject, with at least 5 years post-graduate or 6 years post-HND experience in project implementation
  • Proficiency in Word, AutoCAD, and Excel
  • Methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and delivering project documentation
  • Understanding of the full project lifecycle
  • Valid full UK driving license or ability to convert to one
  • Willingness to undergo a basic disclosure check
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with Rockwell Control Logix, Siemens (PC7S, TIA Portal), Schneider (M580, M340)
  • Site installation and commissioning experience of control systems
  • Experience with Motor Control Centres, including specification, procurement, and installation
  • Knowledge of BS7671 IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Understanding of DSEAR regulations and hazardous area applications
  • Awareness of Functional Safety standards (IEC 61508/61511)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and budgets
  • Familiarity with databases
