Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support HS2 open route lineside works in the UK. You will contribute to design, review, and implementation of electrical systems and coordinate with track, signalling, telecoms, OHLE, and HV power teams.

You'll review technical documentation, prepare approvals, manage technical risks, and support installation, testing, and commissioning across the project lifecycle. A UK driving licence and ECS/CSCS card are required.

Qualifications

  • Educational qualification in electrical engineering as listed (HNC/HND/degree).
  • ECS/CSCS card required.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience on UK rail infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with electrical design principles per UK standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, review, and implementation of electrical systems for HS2 lineside works.
  • Coordinate with HS2 contractors across track, signalling, telecoms, OHLE, and HV power.
  • Review technical docs, drawings, and specifications; prepare approvals and acceptance documentation.

Job description

  • Support the design, review, and implementation of electrical systems for HRS02 HS2 open route lineside works
  • Interface and coordinate with HS2 Rail Systems contractors covering track, signalling, telecoms, OHLE, and HV power
  • Review technical documentation, drawings, and specifications
  • Undertake material selection and prepare technical approval and acceptance documentation
  • Ensure compliance with UK rail industry standards and HS2 Works Information
  • Produce quality documentation, including ITPS and installation verification check sheets
  • Identify, assess, and manage technical risks and support problem resolution
  • Support assurance, quality, and safety processes throughout the project lifecycle
  • Interface with installation and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with site requirements
  • Provide engineering support during installation, testing, and commissioning
  • Coordinate engineering requirements and programme delivery with the Engineering team
  • Liaise with procurement to ensure appropriate electrical equipment is specified and sourced
  • Coordinate with Design, Safety, and Planning teams
  • Promote and support Costain values and behaviours across the project
Requirements
  • HNC, HND, or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • ECS / CSCS Card
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Previous experience working on rail infrastructure projects in the UK
  • Experience in electrical engineering within large-scale infrastructure or rail systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles and relevant UK rail industry standards, including Network Rail standards and BS 7671
  • Good understanding of earthing and bonding practices in a rail environment
  • Experience working within a main contractor or major project environment
  • Sound knowledge of electrical installation practices, switchgear, and associated equipment
  • Experience working on major UK rail projects such as HS2 or Network Rail is desirable
  • Knowledge of SCADA, M&E systems, or rail systems integration is desirable
  • Experience of points heating and junction lighting installations is desirable
  • Familiarity with optical fibre and copper data cable installation practices is desirable
  • Chartered or working towards professional accreditation such as IEng/CEng is desirable
