Electrical Engineer Control and Instrumentation

Commutable from Leeds, Doncaster, York, Goole, East Riding, Beverley, Pocklington
Working hours: 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:30, plus on-call rota
On-call rota: GBP 200/week indemnity; Saturday morning 2 hours paid at 1.5x rate; Sunday morning 2 hours paid at 2x rate
The Role
Hawk 3 Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Electrical Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join a growing team in Selby, North Yorkshire. You will provide electrical and instrumentation repair and maintenance services, operate the Electrical Generation Plant, Peaking Generators, Steam Raising Plant, and Water Treatment Plant, ensuring safe and efficient operations while minimizing costs.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of boilers, gas turbines (CHP plants), and reverse osmosis skids
- Monitor boiler and water treatment plant conditions, adjusting settings as needed
- Oversee process gas combustion, adjusting fuel mixes to meet steam and electricity requirements
- Coordinate with Engineering and Production teams on maintenance and breakdowns
- Perform planned, predictive, and reactive electrical maintenance to ensure plant efficiency
- Fault diagnosis, testing, calibration, installation, and commissioning of process instrumentation
- Isolate electrical plant per permit to work procedures
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults
- Install and commission new or repaired machinery and equipment
- Adhere to safety procedures during all work activities
- Operate HV switching (training provided)
Required Skills and Experience
- Recognized electrical/C&I engineering apprenticeship, preferably in heavy process industry
- HNC in electrical/automation discipline or equivalent experience
- Proven competency in electrical safety, isolation, and panel entry
- Understanding of electrical schematics and installation requirements
- Electrical and instrumentation fault-finding skills
- Experience in instrumentation maintenance
- HV switching experience or willingness to learn (training provided)
- Experience with CHP plant operations or willingness to learn (training provided)
- Ability to work independently and organize team tasks as needed
- Hands-on approach with commitment to completing jobs
- Ability to prioritize workload and adapt flexibly
