Job summary

Advance Grid Solutions (AGS) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to own the development and delivery of electrical engineering deliverables across AGS EPC and IPC projects in the UK, including BESS, solar PV, wind, and MV/HV substations. You will work with Project Management, Lead Engineering and Civils teams to align with programmes and budgets.

The role requires a degree in Electrical Engineering, at least 3 years' experience, and proficiency in DIgSILENT, ELEK, AutoCAD, EPLAN and PV tools.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Electrical Engineering Line Manager, the Electrical Engineer will own the development and delivery of electrical engineering deliverables across AGS EPC and IPC projects in the UK, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, wind, and MV & HV substations. Working first-hand with the Project Management, Lead Engineering and Civils teams, the Electrical Engineer will ensure that deliverables are produced in accordance with applicable engineering standards, regulations and best practice, and are delivered to defined programmes, budgets and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the development, coordination and delivery of electrical engineering deliverables for EPC and IPC projects, including but not limited to BESS, solar PV, wind, and MV & HV substations. Produce and check electrical design documentation, including single line diagrams, general arrangement and layout drawings, cable schedules, schematics, earthing layouts, design basis documents and calculation reports. Work first-hand with the Project Management, Lead Engineering and Civils teams to align electrical deliverables with project programmes, budgets and interfaces. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (civil, structural, SCADA/controls, mechanical) to identify and manage key interfaces. Support DNO / IDNO / TSO grid connection and compliance processes (as applicable). Ensure that electrical deliverables and activities are aligned with respective project programmes. Review subcontractor, vendor and supplier deliverables for technical compliance. Identify and resolve technical design and delivery issues, escalating to the Electrical Engineering Line Manager where required. Conduct initial and periodic site surveys, and support site teams through construction, testing and commissioning. FAT/SAT witnessing of main electrical systems and equipment / components. Provide regular progress reporting, or escalation, to the Electrical Engineering Line Manager

Electrical Studies:

• Carry out, document and check electrical studies, including:
  • Cable sizing (LV, MV and HV), including current rating, voltage drop and short circuit withstand. Load flow. Short circuit. Protection coordination and relay setting studies. Arc flash. Earthing design and analysis.
• Build and maintain network models in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ELEK. Support solar PV layout and energy yield assessments using PVsyst, PVcase and PV SOL. Prepare study reports with clearly stated inputs, assumptions, methodology, results and recommendations.

Commercial, Tendering & Procurement Support:

• Provide technical input during the tendering process to develop preliminary electrical designs. Support the development of tender pricing.
• Define key equipment specifications in coordination with the Procurement Department.

Leadership & Team Development:

• Support and manage graduate-level engineers, including allocating, supervising and checking their work. Support graduate engineers in their professional development, including progression towards professional registration.

Compliance and Safety:

• Ensure all work complies with relevant electrical codes, standards and regulations (BS 7671, ESQCR, EREC G99, the Grid Code, ENA standards, BS EN / IEC, IEEE, etc.). Conduct design risk assessments and hazard analysis.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

• Stay updated with new standards, technologies, tools and industry trends. Recommend improvements to optimise performance, efficiency or cost. Contribute to the development of design templates, calculation tools and standard procedures. Coordinate with the Electrical Engineering Line Manager regarding key training and development requirements.

Key Requirements

• Education: Degree in Electrical or Electrical & Electronic Engineering (BEng / MEng), or equivalent. .

• Experience.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in electrical engineering design. Prior experience on renewable energy projects (BESS, solar PV, wind) and/or MV & HV substations. Proven experience producing electrical deliverables and owning them through design, review and approval. Experience carrying out electrical studies, including cable sizing, load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and earthing. Working knowledge of UK electrical standards and regulations
• Software Proficiency: Prior experience with some or all of the following is sought: DIgSILENT PowerFactory. ELEK. AutoCAD. EPLAN. PVsyst, PVcase and PV SOL.
• Communication Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project management, engineering and civils teams.

Desirable

• Experience working in an EPC or IPC contractor environment in the UK.
• Experience supervising or mentoring graduate engineers.

• Familiarity with Procore or similar project management platforms.
• Membership of the IET, and holding or working towards IEng / CEng registration.
