Job summary

J3A Recruitment is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking engineering business delivering specialist projects across the UK water sector. You'll design electrical systems for wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and associated infrastructure, working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient solutions.

The role covers detailed drawings, load calculations, PLC/SCADA interfaces, and collaboration from design through commissioning.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering required or equivalent.
• City & Guilds 2382-22 (18th Edition) knowledge required.
• City & Guilds 2396–Design, Erection and Verification desirable.
• Water/utility sector experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Produce SLDs, cable block diagrams, load schedules and cable schedules.
• Develop detailed power distribution, control and instrumentation designs.
• Perform cable sizing, load, voltage-drop, fault-level and protection calculations.
• Select and specify MCCs, motors, VSDs, and field instrumentation.
• Ensure compliance with British Standards, WIMES and client specs.
• Develop control philosophies and interface with PLC/SCADA systems.
• Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews and risk assessments.
• Support procurement, manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
• Review supplier/subcontractor designs.
• Conduct site surveys and assist onsite testing and commissioning.
• Provide input into project scopes and client quotations.
