Job summary

Automation Experts is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer in the Farnborough area. The role focuses on electrical design for robotic and special‑purpose machinery within life sciences, with duties from design through testing and commissioning, working closely with production and R&D teams.

You will contribute to safety systems, schematics, BOMs and supplier coordination, while developing across multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Electrical/Electronic engineering experience.
• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN or AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of British, European and international standards.
• Experience designing systems around industrial or collaborative robots.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, RS232 and Fieldbus communication.
• Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, distributed I/O and servo control.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
• Organised, proactive and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical control systems for robotic and SP machinery.
• Design and implement machine safety systems.
• Produce schematics, hook-up diagrams and build instructions.
• Create BOMs and cost estimates for materials.
• Work with purchasing to source components.
• Carry out feasibility studies for new products.
• Support risk assessments and safe design practices.
• Develop testing, installation and commissioning procedures.
• Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing and R&D.
• Manage multiple projects against timelines.
