Job summary

Morgan McKinley (South West) is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design of high-integrity enclosures and control systems for naval platforms. You will drive the full design lifecycle from concept to prototype and production handover in a defense-focused team.

The role requires CAD proficiency, power distribution expertise, and experience delivering ruggedised electrical solutions that satisfy EMC, shock and environmental standards. Security clearance eligibility is expected.

Qualifications

Experience in electrical design within a high-integrity environment (defense, aerospace, nuclear or rail).
Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical).
Deep understanding of power distribution, control circuitry and PCB integration.
Experience designing for harsh environments (IP ratings, thermal management, ruggedisation).
Knowledge of maritime defense standards and certification processes is desirable.

Responsibilities

System Design: lead electrical design of complex enclosures, power distribution units and control systems for naval applications.
Technical Spec: produce wiring diagrams, BOMs and detailed specifications from customer requirements.
Compliance & Standards: ensure designs meet maritime and defense standards (EMC, shock, environmental protection).
Lifecycle Management: manage projects from concept through prototype, testing and production handover.
Collaboration: work with mechanical engineers and production teams for ruggedised enclosures.
Mentorship: provide technical guidance and peer reviews for junior engineers.
