Job description

My client is a leading Engineering and Construction company, delivering innovative solutions internationally, including large public buildings and deployable containerised systems.

They are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join their engineering team and play a key role in producing comprehensive and innovative electrical designs, ensuring seamless integration of electrical systems into larger engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Produce conceptual designs, detailed designs, integration/installation drawings, design specifications, operational documentation, and validation evidence for electrical engineering solutions.
  2. Work closely with other design engineers to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall project design.
  3. Ensure all electrical design solutions meet safety, quality, technical, and commercial requirements.
  4. Manage third-party designers, ensuring their designs meet project requirements.
  5. Provide design support to installation and commissioning teams to ensure smooth implementation.
  6. Lead and participate in internal and external design review meetings, providing expertise and guidance on electrical design matters.
  7. Identify and support opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and overall business improvements within electrical design processes.
  8. Assist in preparing technical tenders and budgets, providing electrical design input to ensure accurate scope definition.
  9. Handle requests for quotations (RFQs) for specialist equipment related to electrical systems.
  10. Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical systems and components.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified with a degree or higher education qualification (HNC/HND) in electrical engineering, along with strong post-qualification experience in a design environment. Experience of the integration of multiple services within containerised or modular builds would be a significant advantage. You will need to be proficient in the use of Autodesk AutoCAD (ideally with other 3D packages), as well as Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel & Outlook.

You will also have experience of:

  1. Simulation and analysis tools for electrical systems (such as 'Trimble MEP' / DIALux / Relux).
  2. The identification and rectification of defects encountered during operational service.
  3. Working knowledge of 18th Edition (amendment 2) wiring regulations.
  4. LPS and earthing systems.
  5. EMC and Tempest installations.
  6. Working knowledge of relevant BS / ISO standards.
  7. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  8. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  9. Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  10. Ability to work under pressure, meet targets and work to deadlines.

Location: Weymouth area, Dorset
Salary: negotiable based on experience.
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working - significant flexibility offered.
