Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to design electrical and pneumatic control systems for bespoke automation machinery across diverse industries, from concept to customer acceptance.

You will develop system architectures, specify components, produce schematics, and create CE docs while collaborating with mechanical and software teams to deliver integrated solutions on projects in Plymouth and commutable areas.

Qualifications

• Experience designing industrial electrical or control systems.
• Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic design.
• Knowledge of UL508A Industrial Control Panels.
• Familiarity with EPLAN or similar electrical design software.
• Knowledge of PLC and automation hardware from Siemens, Rockwell, Omron, Mitsubishi or B&R.
• Machinery safety standards BS EN ISO13849.

Responsibilities

• Meeting with customers and the sales team to understand project requirements.
• Developing electrical system architecture and control designs.
• Specifying industrial control components including PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, robots, VSDs and more.
• Producing electrical schematics, wiring schedules and complete technical documentation.
• Creating parts lists, safety requirement specifications, risk assessments and CE documentation.
• Working closely with mechanical engineers, software engineers and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Supporting manufacturing during assembly and testing.
• Attending Factory and Site Acceptance Tests with customers.

Electrical Design Engineer - Industrial Machinery, Manufacturing

As our Electrical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing electrical and pneumatic control systems for bespoke automation machinery, taking projects from concept through to successful customer acceptance.

Your day-to-day will include:

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Electrical Design Engineer - Industrial Machinery, Manufacturing

We're looking for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with creative problem-solving.

You’ll ideally have:

• Experience designing industrial electrical or control systems
• A solid understanding of electrical and pneumatic design
• Knowledge of UL508A Industrial Control Panels
• Experience using Sistema or Pilz safety software
• Familiarity with EPLAN (or similar electrical design software)
• Knowledge of PLC and automation hardware from manufacturers such as Siemens, Rockwell, Omron, Mitsubishi or B&R
• An understanding of machinery safety standards including BS EN (phone number removed) and ISO13849
• A formal qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Design
