Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection LTD is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for industrial machinery and manufacturing projects in the Plymouth area. The role focuses on designing electrical and pneumatic control systems from concept to customer acceptance, coordinating with customers and the sales team to capture project requirements.

You will develop electrical architectures, specify components, create schematics and documentation, and ensure safety and CE compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience designing industrial electrical or control systems.
• Understanding of electrical and pneumatic design.
• Knowledge of UL508A Industrial Control Panels.
• Experience using Sistema or Pilz safety software.
• Familiarity with EPLAN (or similar electrical design software).
• Knowledge of PLC and automation hardware from major manufacturers.
• Understanding of machinery safety standards BS EN ISO13849.
• Formal qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Design.

Responsibilities

• Meeting with customers and the sales team to understand project requirements
• Developing electrical system architecture and control designs
• Specifying industrial control components including PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, robots, VSDs and more
• Producing electrical schematics, wiring schedules and complete technical documentation
• Creating parts lists, safety requirement specifications, risk assessments and CE documentation
• Working closely with mechanical engineers, software engineers and project managers to deliver integrated solutions
• Supporting manufacturing during assembly and testing
• Attending Factory and Site Acceptance Tests with customers

As our Electrical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing electrical and pneumatic control systems for bespoke automation machinery, taking projects from concept through to successful customer acceptance.

We're looking for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with creative problem-solving.

You’ll ideally have:

• Experience designing industrial electrical or control systems
• A solid understanding of electrical and pneumatic design
• Knowledge of UL508A Industrial Control Panels
• Experience using Sistema or Pilz safety software
• Familiarity with EPLAN (or similar electrical design software)
• Knowledge of PLC and automation hardware from manufacturers such as Siemens, Rockwell, Omron, Mitsubishi or B&R
• An understanding of machinery safety standards including BS EN(phone number removed) and ISO13849
• A formal qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Design
