We now have an opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer, for either a 1-year or 2-year fixed-term contract, to join our Engineering team and provide electrical engineering design support for the technical systems of the Diamond facility.

The Engineering team plays a key role in designing, developing, and constructing the equipment required for X-ray production in scientific research.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Assisting in and producing electrical designs for projects including motor controls, vacuum control systems, electrical rack and panel design, low voltage distribution systems, and relay and interlock logic.
  2. Developing CAD schematics, hook-ups, and other electrical documentation.
  3. Supporting procurement of equipment through commercial suppliers.
  4. Maintaining and updating engineering drawings and documentation.
  5. Designing in accordance with British, European, international, and company standards.
  6. Liaising with system owners to gain experience with technologies such as programmable logic controllers, motion controls, distributed I/O, instrumentation, and pneumatic controls.
  7. Contributing to hazard analysis and risk assessments.

About You

You will have a background in Electrical Engineering, with at least a Level 3 Qualification and recognized apprenticeship, or HNC or above in a relevant discipline.

You should be passionate about a career in electrical engineering, with experience in design, manufacture, assembly, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. A basic understanding of control systems and electrical design methodology, along with working knowledge of CAD systems, is essential.

You should also have experience in:

  • Producing working designs, such as electrical diagrams, parts lists, and assembly drawings.
  • Electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Health and safety considerations.

Demonstrate design understanding in at least one of the following areas:

  • Electrical rack build and design.
  • Motor control systems for stepper, servo, or DC motors.
  • Low voltage distribution systems.
  • Relay and interlock logic.
