An engineering company in the energy sector is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join its technical team. The role involves designing products for the offshore energy sector, assessing customer requirements, and delivering designs through documentation and presentations. Ideal candidates will have a degree in a technical discipline, strong CAD skills, and experience with engineering analysis. Qualifications

Overview

People In Power is working with a specialist engineering company that supplies accessories for subsea power cables and umbilicals with a focus on repairing joint systems across all voltage ranges. The Company offers a well-proven and highly reliable factory jointing (splicing) service to medium and HV subsea cable and umbilical manufacturers into the subsea and offshore wind industry, The splicing process has applications during long-length cable production, and in the repair of power cables or umbilicals which have been damaged during manufacture. They have a strong and growing presence in the rapidly expanding offshore wind sector and also supply into the offshore oil & gas industry. The Company is anticipating considerable growth over the next few years after joining Phister which means this is a great opportunity for growth and development.

Job Position Overview - Design Engineer

The position of Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Design Manager and will involve working within the technical team to design and develop a range of products for the offshore energy sector. This will include assessing customer requirements and industry standards, producing, and assessing the design including manufacturing and supply chain aspects, then delivering the design through drawings, documentation and presentations.

Responsibilities
  • Determining client and project specifications and objectives.
  • Performing engineering analysis
  • Performing engineering calculations
  • Producing engineering drawings
  • Producing engineering documentation
  • Liaison with, and development supply chain on engineering matters
  • Liaison with customers on engineering matters
  • Involvement in engineering trials and development testing
  • Providing regular project updates to management
Key Skill Requirements
  • Degree/HND or equivalent in a technical discipline - preferably electrical or physics biased
  • Good first principles engineering capability
  • Strong knowledge and experience of CAD modelling and drawing - ideally utilising Autodesk Inventor
  • Strong knowledge and experience of engineering analysis using FEA modelling - ideally utilising COMSOL
  • Good understanding of electrical principles and material science
Nice to Haves
  • Experience of subsea engineering and offshore wind farms
  • Good knowledge of offshore operations
  • Experience of power cable engineering
  • Experience of power cable accessories
  • Hands on experience of electrical testing activities
  • Material testing experience
