Job description

Principal EICA Engineer

Location: Manchester
Flexibility: 2–3 days in the office/ week
Sector: Water
Start date: ASAP

Role Overview:

We are currently seeking a Principal EICA Engineer to work in Manchester. This is a senior–level role suited to experienced engineers capable of leading or supporting major project delivery within the Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) discipline. You will report to the Project Lead Engineer or take the lead on specific projects.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Produce cost–effective design documents that meet specifications and can be procured, installed, and commissioned efficiently.

  • Deliver outline electrical, instrumentation and control designs.

  • Carry out site surveys and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), producing detailed reports.

  • Ensure compliance of designs (including subcontractor work) with project specs and budget.

  • Take technical ownership of EC&I aspects, including preparation, checking, and/or approval of documents.

  • Allocate workloads and ensure timely delivery in line with project schedules.

  • Comply with all relevant legislation, codes of practice, and client/company standards.

  • Prepare EICA equipment/material requisitions and scopes of work for installation.

  • Review supplier quotations and produce technical bid assessments.


More specific tasks may include:
  • High Voltage (HV) Design

  • Site Construction & Commissioning Support

Qualifications:
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering)

  • Apprenticeship pathways may be considered

  • Chartered or Incorporated status (or actively working towards)

Technical Experience:
  • Over 15 years of experience in engineering, particularly in water or related sectors

  • Deep understanding of design practices and installation requirements

  • Strong knowledge of UK legislation & standards, including WIMES

  • Familiarity with explosive area requirements (e.g., ATEX)

  • Experience in CE Marking and compliance (PED, LVD, Machinery Directive, EMC)

  • Risk management and HSE awareness
