Job summary

YT Technologies in Long Eaton is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead panel-wired systems, select components and design relay logic. You will use CAD and ERP tools to create circuit diagrams, wiring schematics and BOMs, and contribute hands-on during prototyping and build.

The role emphasizes protection, EMC compliance, and coordination with production teams. You’ll troubleshoot, support MRNs/DFDs, and ensure designs meet current standards while enabling efficient, high-spec hardware

Qualifications

• Panel-wired systems design experience.
• Strong practical understanding of VFDs and relay logic.
• Hands-on fault finding and prototyping on electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of EMC principles and standards.

Responsibilities

Electrical Design Engineer

We are partnering with an innovative, product-focused technology design business currently scaling its multidisciplinary engineering team. This business develops custom, high-spec systems and offers an environment where your work directly impacts real-world hardware.

What You'll Be Doing

• Panel & Hardware Design: Lead the electrical design of panel-wired systems, including component selection (switches, relays, contactors, wiring) and design of relay logic systems.
• CAD & ERP Management: Utilise CAD and conventional drawing methods to create and update circuit diagrams, wiring schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the ERP system.
• Prototyping & Hands-On Build: Assist directly in the physical build, wiring, and testing of prototype systems.
• System Protection & Compliance: Implement protection and coordination systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and ensure all designs comply with key EMC principles and current standards/directives.
• Technical Engineering Support: Act as the technical authority for modification requests (MRNs), departure-from-drawing concessions (DFDs), regional power supply queries, and custom project requests.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Panel Design & Wiring Standards: Proven experience designing panel-wired systems and component selection.
• VFDs & Logic Systems: Strong practical understanding of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), logic systems, and relay logic systems.
• Fault-Finding & Prototyping: Practical, hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems on the bench and factory floor.
• Electronics & EMC Knowledge: An understanding of basic electronic systems.
