A leading engineering firm is seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Leeds. This role involves developing electrical designs for critical projects in the utilities sector and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Brownlee Cale are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join our client's engineering team, working on a variety of civils projects.
You will play a key role in ensuring designs meet client specifications, industry regulations, and environmental standards, from concept through to commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities
Develop electrical design deliverables including single–line diagrams, cable schedules, lighting layouts, control panel designs, and power distribution systems.
Carry out load calculations, equipment sizing, and protective device coordination.
Prepare and review technical specifications, datasheets, and procurement documentation.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, and process engineers.
Provide input into project planning, cost estimation, and risk assessments.
Ensure designs comply with applicable standards such as BS7671, IEC, and client–specific specifications.
Support site installation, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
Interface with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure design intent is achieved.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Proven experience in electrical design within sectors such as water or utilities.
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Amtech, or ETAP.
Understanding of UK electrical regulations (e.g. IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition).
Familiarity with water industry frameworks and standards (e.g. WIMES).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
Chartered or working towards Chartership (IET or similar).
Experience with PLC/SCADA system integration.
Knowledge of ATEX requirements and hazardous area classification.
Experience using BIM or Revit MEP is an advantage.
