As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for undertaking electrical surveys, developing building-services designs and producing technical documentation for refurbishment, extension and new-build projects. The role covers a broad range of electrical services, including LV distribution, small power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, data, CCTV, access control, photovoltaic systems and electric vehicle charging. You will also have involvement in construction-stage activities, including site inspections, contractor submissions, testing, commissioning and handover. The role will include: Undertaking electrical condition, asset, measured and feasibility surveysAssessing existing electrical installations and identifying defects, limitations and potential risksDeveloping electrical building-services designs for refurbishment, extension and new-build projectsDesigning LV distribution, small power, containment, lighting, emergency lighting and associated systemsCarrying out load, demand, diversity, cable-sizing, voltage-drop and fault-level calculationsProducing drawings, schematics, specifications, schedules and tender documentationCoordinating electrical designs with other disciplinesPreparing and amending 2D CAD drawings where requiredLiaising with clients, contractors, design teams and statutory undertakersReviewing contractor proposals, drawings, calculations and technical submissionsAttending site and construction-stage inspectionsSupporting testing, commissioning, snagging, practical completion and handoverContributing to project management, contract administration or Employer's Agent duties where appropriateManaging allocated work against agreed programmes, deliverables and fee budgetsSupporting and providing guidance to more junior members of the team
Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related disciplineRelevant experience within an electrical engineering, building services or construction consultancy environmentExperience surveying, designing and coordinating electrical building servicesExperience undertaking electrical load and cable calculationsWorking knowledge of AutoCAD and 2D technical drawingsExperience producing or coordinating specifications, schedules, drawings and technical reportsUnderstanding of the RIBA Plan of Work and design coordinationWorking knowledge of UK Building Regulations, BS 7671 and relevant electrical standardsGood communication and organisational skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and work with a degree of independenceFull UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business useWillingness to travel to project sites regularlyDesirable experience includes Trimble, Amtech or equivalent electrical design software, DIALux, Revit and BIM processes. Experience across education, healthcare or other public-sector estates would also be advantageous.The successful candidate will ideally be working towards, or interested in working towards, Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.
