Day Electrical Engineer – Prestigious University Site

Location: Prestigious University Site

Hours: Monday to Friday, rotational shifts between 6 am – 7 pm

Role Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Day Electrical Engineer to join their team at a prestigious university site. This position offers excellent career progression opportunities and valuable experience within a high-profile environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive services, collaborating with General Maintenance Assistants as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintenance & Repairs: Deliver comprehensive repair and maintenance services for systems, plant, and equipment across all university buildings.
  2. Shift Work: Operate on a rotational schedule, with potential shifts between 6 am – 7 pm, Monday to Friday.
  3. Safety & Compliance: Execute tasks safely and effectively, adhering to safety legislation, manufacturer manuals, and company health & safety procedures.
  4. Fault Finding: Conduct diagnostic and fault-finding tasks to ensure system reliability.
  5. Asset Management: Maintain and update asset registers accurately.
  6. PPM & Reactive Maintenance: Perform statutory, mandatory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance duties.
  7. Interpretation & Execution: Accurately interpret instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  8. New Installations: Assist in setting out new work, identifying required materials, and collecting relevant tools and equipment.
  9. Versatility: Undertake a range of duties, including tasks outside the primary trade area.
  10. Tool & Equipment Use: Utilize hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and equipment safely and effectively.
  11. Pre-Installation Inspections: Conduct pre-installation inspections and assess services required for new equipment and minor installation improvements.
  12. Defect Reporting: Conduct site-based surveys and report defects to the appropriate manager.
  13. Insurance Inspections: Prepare plant and equipment for independent insurance inspections to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
  14. Multi-Trade Skills: Gain skills in other trades through suitable training and perform various maintenance tasks.
  15. Contractor Oversight: Occasionally oversee the work of service contractors.
  16. Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with the Asset Manager regarding plant, equipment, and building fabric failures, and request necessary goods and services.
  17. Hazardous Work: Work safely in hazardous areas, confined spaces, and on contaminated equipment using appropriate PPE.
  18. Team Support: Instruct and support colleagues in specific work aspects.
  19. Administration: Complete daily admin tasks, including timely completion of work dockets, tickets, and logbooks.
  20. Software & Systems: Use relevant software systems, including PDAs, CAFM systems, BMS, work permits, and ordering systems, with proper training.
  21. Emergency Support: Assist with emergency work outside of normal hours when required.
  22. Training & Development: Support induction and training of new starters, apprentices, and maintenance staff as part of personal development.
  23. Equipment Handling: Use ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment safely.
Qualifications
  • Completed apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent NVQ/C&G Level 3 qualification.
  • Knowledge of emergency lighting fundamentals and maintenance.
  • 17th Edition electrical qualification, with a willingness to undertake the 18th Edition.
  • Basic knowledge of Health & Safety regulations related to the construction industry.
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance and electrical systems.
  • Ability to record detailed and accurate repair information.
  • Proficiency in using mobile electronic devices (handhelds) for work management.
