Our client is in search of a Day Electrical Engineer to commence work at a prestigious site, offering an opportunity to gain valuable experience and progress within the role. We are seeking a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Engineer who will operate independently within the electrician trade, collaborating with General Maintenance Assistants as needed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive repair and maintenance service for systems, plant, and equipment across all University buildings. The role involves adherence to a rotational schedule, with the possibility of working between 6 am – 7 pm, Monday to Friday, based on published work patterns.

Responsibilities:
  • Execute work safely and effectively, adhering to relevant safety legislation, manufacturers’ manuals, and KUSCO Health & Safety Procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostic and fault-finding tasks.
  • Maintain and update asset registers.
  • Perform maintenance tasks, including statutory, mandatory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance.
  • Interpret instructions, drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Assist in setting out new work, identifying materials for ordering, and collecting using relevant tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by undertaking a wide range of duties, including those outside the primary trade area.
  • Utilize hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and equipment within safety guidelines.
  • Plan and carry out maintenance work on systems, plant, equipment, and buildings, ensuring satisfactory operation upon completion.
  • Conduct inspections for pre-installations and investigate services required for new equipment and minor installation improvement works.
  • Conduct site-based surveys and report defects to the appropriate manager.
  • Prepare plant and equipment for independent insurance inspection for compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Acquire skills in other trades, performing various tasks with suitable training.
  • Oversee the work of service contractors on occasion.
  • Liaise with the Asset Manager regarding plant, equipment, and building fabric failures, requesting the supply of goods and services as needed.
  • Work in hazardous areas, confined spaces, and on contaminated equipment using appropriate protective equipment and safety measures.
  • Liaise with and instruct others on aspects of the work.
  • Complete daily individual administration tasks, including the timely completion of works/job dockets/tickets and logbooks.
  • Utilize relevant software systems, including PDA’s, CAFM system, BMS, work permit system, and ordering system with proper training.
  • Assist with emergency work when requested, including outside normal working hours.
  • Support the induction and training of new starters, apprentices, and maintenance staff as part of a personal development program.
  • Utilize equipment such as ladders and scaffolding as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completed an apprenticeship in Electrical or obtained an equivalent NVQ/C&G level 3.
  • Emergency Lighting – Fundamentals, providing basic knowledge to design to relevant standards.
  • Emergency Lighting – Maintenance, providing the required knowledge to maintain/test a commercial system for compliance.
  • 17th edition and willingness to undertake 18th edition.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound knowledge of building maintenance and understanding of electrical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety issues in connection with the Construction Industry.
  • Ability to record detailed and accurate repair information.
  • Proficient in using mobile electronic equipment (handhelds).
