Qualifications

  • Apprentices must complete Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Must possess 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 including core subjects.
  • Willingness to gain comprehensive exposure to high-tech systems.

Salary: GBP0 - GBP16764 per annum

Purpose of the role

An opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Craftsman Apprentice, software biased, to join the engineering team at Ketton Cement plant.

This is an excellent and challenging opportunity to join a company that leads the way within the cement industry with 3 cement plants across the country.

Not only will the selected candidate work with skilled and experienced engineers, but they will also gain qualifications as a mechanical engineer.

The apprenticeship duration is 42-48 months, including college days and on-site work.

Qualifications and Development

  • All apprentices are required to achieve a minimum of:
  • (College) Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
  • (College) Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
  • (In-Company) Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
  • Internal and external training will be provided to gain experience, knowledge, and qualifications for future careers.
  • Specific skills include reading and interpreting data and documentation, condition monitoring, planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of high-tech systems such as mechanical, fluid & pneumatic, electrical & electronic, and process control equipment.
  • Supporting installation, testing, and commissioning of equipment where applicable.
  • Contributing to business improvements by identifying opportunities for better practices, processes, or procedures.

Career Progression

This role will set the individual on a career path within engineering, recognized across various engineering roles.

Key Points

  • Years 1 and 2: 36-hour week (7:30 am – 3:30 pm Mon to Thu, 7:30 am – 11:30 am Friday)
  • Years 3 and 4: 40-hour week (7:30 am - 3:30 pm Mon to Fri)
  • Salary increases annually based on national agreement grades (Year 1 = 35%, Year 2 = 45%, Year 3 = 60%, Year 4 = 85%). The apprenticeships are expected to commence in September 2024.

Job Purpose

  • Adhering to health and safety standards and company policies.
  • Working alongside qualified engineers on the manufacturing plant.
  • Performing maintenance and repairs on cement plant equipment.
  • Gaining comprehensive knowledge of the cement production process through structured experience.

Accountabilities

The Electrical apprentice will work within the Electrical maintenance team and collaborate with our onsite software engineer. The team comprises 1 Electrical Engineer, 1 Electrical Supervisor, 4 Electrical Craftsmen, and 1 Software Engineer.
