Job description
Overview

Questech are recruiting on behalf of our client in Pontefract, West Yorkshire for an Electrical Controls Engineer who can focus on designing, developing, and maintaining automated control systems, including programming and configuring PLCs, SCADA systems, and other automation technologies.

The Person
  • Qualified to HNC/D level in Electrical or Control Engineering, or possess an equivalent qualification, with time served or a suitably recognised qualification in electrical/control engineering.
  • Demonstrable practical experience in both reactive and preventative electrical maintenance, and continuous improvement
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and experience in relevant software (e.g. design and calculation software)
  • Solid understanding of PLC programming and fault finding
  • SCADA skills, PID Tuning, HMI Development and/or Electrical drawing proficiency
  • Knowledge of Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and expertise in WCM/TPM techniques
  • Safety conscious with proficient knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate risks to safe levels
  • Capable of collaborative teamwork within a rotational shift schedule
The Role
  • Specialise in designing, developing, and maintaining control systems that automate processes, including programming and configuring PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and other automation technologies.
  • Ensure that all Control & Electrical assets are maintained in accordance with the company's requirements and in compliance with relevant statutory health & safety and environmental legislation.
  • Keep records for plant maintenance and ensure timely inspections and actions based on testing/examining authorities' recommendations.
  • Championship continuous improvement processes, including breakdown analysis using RCFA techniques, and preventative and condition-based maintenance.
  • Provide second-line maintenance support to engineers, facilitating root cause fault diagnosis on critical plant and equipment, and ensuring prompt plant recovery.
  • Plan, engineer, and execute Control & Electrical work (projects, shutdowns, or other) safely and efficiently, within the allocated time and budget, to achieve performance and OEE targets.
  • Supervise the acceptance and commissioning of plant and equipment, and prepare maintenance schedules and programmes to ensure reliable operation.
  • Oversee and coordinate on-site third-party (e.g., contractor) activities to ensure compliance with company requirements and safety guidelines.
  • Assist in budget development discussions and maintain systems for effective budget monitoring and control.
  • Provide expert technical advice on Control & Electrical Engineering to ensure effective decision-making.
  • Ensure efficient and safe operation of machinery and processes, focusing on system integration, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in control theory, automation, programming languages (e.g., C++, Python), and diagnostic tools, with an understanding of process control and instrumentation.
Shifts and Salary

The shifts are Monday to Friday - Days Only

Salary will be £47,000pa
