Job description

Pertemps Bristol Industrial are recruiting for a skilled and motivated Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (ECI) Engineer to join one of our clients based in BS21, Clevedon.

Reporting to the Lead Controls Engineer, this role plays a key part in the design, development, and commissioning of advanced control systems for industrial applications.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering standards are met, and project objectives are delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of electrical control systems and instrumentation.
  • Assist in resolving engineering issues by identifying effective technical solutions.
  • Contribute to project planning, manage individual work priorities, and monitor task progress.
  • Ensure systems comply with safety standards, modular design principles, and industry regulations.
  • Assist in the creation and review of technical documentation including manuals and service instructions.
  • Participate in factory and field testing and provide technical support during system commissioning.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities and adopt new tools and technologies under guidance.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
  • HND or Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Some experience in PLC/HMI programming (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).
  • Understanding of electrical schematics, PID loops, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Awareness of industry standards (e.g., EN/UL61010, EN60204, SIL/EN61508).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
Desirable:
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Experience in regulated industries and familiarity with risk assessment techniques (HAZOP, FMEA).
  • Exposure to web development tools (HTML5, JavaScript, ASP) is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel.
