Job summary

Viridor is seeking an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer for their new ERF project at Tilbury Docks, Essex. This full‑time role (40 hours/wk, Mon-Fri) focuses on electrical, control and instrumentation maintenance as the site moves from construction to operation.

Joining during construction, you’ll help establish safe, reliable systems and support a high‑performing engineering team ahead of full site operation in 2028. A strong AV of PLC/SCADA systems is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of repair methods for electrical, control and instrumentation systems and equipment.
• Experience with Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work.
• Experience supervising teams and contractors to deliver KPIs.
• Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels.
• An appropriate engineering qualification such as an HNC or equivalent.
• Experience in energy recovery facilities or heavy industrial environments would be advantageous.
• Experience with industrial control systems including DCS, PLC and SCADA would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Ensure long‑term availability and reliability of the plant’s electrical and control systems.
• Plan and execute maintenance across the ERF plant, including stores and workshops.
• Deliver maintenance safely and efficiently and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide guidance to colleagues and help develop engineering capability across the site.

Electrical, Control & Instrument Engineer

Our new ERF in Tilbury, Essex, is currently under construction and we are looking for an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our team. This is a full‑time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The salary for this role will be competitive plus participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

About The Role

Joining our team and reporting to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, the EC&I Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of electrical, control and instrumentation engineering and maintenance on site, working closely with the Mechanical Engineers.

The primary objective of the role is to ensure the long‑term availability and reliability of the plant’s electrical and control systems, preserve the value of site assets, and support the achievement of health and safety, environmental and financial targets.

In this role, you will be responsible for all electrical, control and instrumentation engineering activities, alongside the effective planning and execution of maintenance across the ERF plant. This includes supporting the management of stores and workshops, ensuring maintenance activities are delivered safely and efficiently, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

You will also use your technical expertise to provide guidance and support to colleagues, helping to develop capability and maintain high engineering standards across the site.

Our Ideal Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer Will Have

• Knowledge of repair methods for electrical, control and instrumentation systems and equipment.
• Experience working within Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work processes.
• Experience supervising teams and contractors to deliver agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
• An appropriate engineering qualification, such as an HNC or equivalent.
• Previous experience within an Energy Recovery Facility, power generation, process plant, chemical, manufacturing or other heavy industrial environment would be advantageous.
• Experience working with industrial control systems, including DCS, PLC and SCADA platforms, would be advantageous.
