Our new ERF in Tilbury, Essex, is currently under construction and we are looking for an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our team. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The salary for this role will be competitive plus participation in an annual bonus scheme, in addition to our great range of benefits.

The closing date for applications is 31st October 2026. We encourage all applicants to apply as soon as possible as we may close vacancies early if we receive a high number of applications.

Why Join Us?

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a major new Energy Recovery Facility from the ground up. Joining during the construction phase, you'll have the chance to support the site's transition into operations and play a key role in preparing the facility for long-term success.

As Viridor assumes operational responsibility for the site in April 2028, you'll help establish safe and reliable electrical, control and instrumentation systems, contribute to building a high-performing engineering team, and gain valuable experience as the plant moves from construction and commissioning into full operation.

You'll work closely with experienced engineering and operations professionals throughout the construction and commissioning phases, gaining valuable knowledge, hands-on experience and training to support your development ahead of full site operations.

For someone looking to develop their career in power generation, automation and industrial control systems, this is an exciting opportunity to grow alongside one of the UK's most significant new ERF projects and help shape its future success from day one.

About the Role

Joining our team and reporting to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, the EC&I Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of electrical, control and instrumentation engineering and maintenance on site, working closely with the Mechanical Engineers.

The primary objective of the role is to ensure the long-term availability and reliability of the plant's electrical and control systems, preserve the value of site assets, and support the achievement of health and safety, environmental and financial targets.

In this role, you will be responsible for all electrical, control and instrumentation engineering activities, alongside the effective planning and execution of maintenance across the ERF plant. This includes supporting the management of stores and workshops, ensuring maintenance activities are delivered safely and efficiently, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

You will also use your technical expertise to provide guidance and support to colleagues, helping to develop capability and maintain high engineering standards across the site.

Our Ideal Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer Will Have:
  • Knowledge of repair methods for electrical, control and instrumentation systems and equipment.
  • Experience working within Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work processes.
  • Experience supervising teams and contractors to deliver agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • An appropriate engineering qualification, such as an HNC or equivalent.
  • Previous experience within an Energy Recovery Facility, power generation, process plant, chemical, manufacturing or other heavy industrial environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with industrial control systems, including DCS, PLC and SCADA platforms, would be advantageous.
