EC&I Technician (Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician)

  • Location: Croydon (CR0 4TD)
  • Start: June/July 2025
  • Salary: £47,239 GROSS PA (Company benefits given on application)

The EC&I Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all the EC&I equipment at the site and will provide support to other disciplines as necessary using their experience and skills. Assisting in the co-ordination of contractors as required and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment for themselves and their colleagues, the EC&I Technician will also be responsible for planning, organising and undertaking corrective and reactive work and be responsible for delivering improvement projects leading to increased plant reliability and cost reduction.
Role & Responsibilities:

  • To carry out pre planned maintenance inspections as defined by site maintenance plans in a safe and effective manner
  • To plan and deliver corrective and reactive work, ensuring that tools, parts and materials are available and production downtime is minimised whilst also upholding and exceeding standards of safety ensuring that all work areas are kept tidy by adopting a 'clean as you go' approach at all times
  • Ensure maintenance plans and targets are achieved safely, economically and within the environmental limits of the plant.
  • Work alongside other functions as necessary, assisting with supervision of contractors.
  • Carry out fault diagnostics and rectifying as required.
  • Management of calibration records and implementation of instrument calibrations.
  • Fully conversant with instrument loop drawings and P&IDs.
  • Conduct plant inspections and area safety inspections.
  • Ensure that all reporting within the Computerised Maintenance Management System is effective and followed through to completion promptly.
  • Ensure that all activities within the plant are carried out in a safe manner in line with laid down procedures.
  • To complete dynamic risk assessments where necessary to ensure that safe working practices are upheld and risk reduced
  • Work as part of a team striving for continual improvement in minimising environmental Health & Safety risk within the plant.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Experience in EC&I engineering within the process / manufacturing industry.
  • Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management systems.
  • DCS/SCADA experience.
  • City & Guilds / NVQ 3 / HNC (or equivalent) in relevant Engineering discipline QE2: Full, UK driving license.
  • Coordinating work activities including contractors
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and their impacts
  • Good understanding of a proactive maintenance strategy and condition monitoring
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems, purpose and functionality.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and safety
  • Understanding of safe systems of work i.e. Plant isolations and safety systems
  • Can communicate clearly and concisely at all levels.
  • Thinks logically and decisively to effectively provide engineering management solutions
  • Can work on your own initiative or collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent proven fault finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to produce basic reports and management data as required
  • Proficient in computer use and the Microsoft suite of applications i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, Microsoft Teams etc).
  • Fully conversant with instrument loop drawing and P&IDs
  • Formal electrical qualification which qualifies as multi-skilled
  • Specific waste industry experience, MRF/MPT/Polymers
  • Worked in a multi skilled role with electrical experience, PLC, control systems & Inverter drives
