Job summary

Cavendish Nuclear, a key player in defence and nuclear engineering, is seeking an Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician for its Leicester site. You will perform detailed testing, fault-finding and repair of analogue electronic systems used in critical operations, ensuring tests are verified and documented to exacting standards.

You will use specialist equipment, collaborate with engineers to identify root causes, and maintain thorough records to demonstrate compliance.

Qualifications

  • Experience testing and fault-finding electrical/electronic systems in a technical environment.
  • Proven ability to test analogue PCB and discrete components to procedures.
  • Ability to document results accurately and maintain records in a regulated setting.
  • Experience in quality-focused engineering environments is desirable.
  • Secure clearance (SC) eligibility or ability to obtain clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Test analogue PCBs and electrical equipment against approved documentation.
  • Investigate faults and repair analogue electronics using test equipment.
  • Verify results through peer checks and evidence-based reporting.
  • Record fault investigations and corrective actions in detailed reports.
  • Produce technical and fault reports including root-cause analysis.

The role

As an Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician, you’ll carry out detailed testing, fault‑finding and repair of analogue electronic systems that support critical defence and nuclear operations. Your work will ensure that equipment is tested, verified and documented to exacting standards before it is relied upon in operational environments.

Day-to-day, you’ll apply your testing expertise using specialist equipment, collaborate with engineering colleagues to identify root causes, and produce clear technical records that demonstrate compliance. In return, you’ll build specialist diagnostic capability, gain experience in a highly regulated environment, and develop a long‑term career within nuclear and defence engineering.

  • Testing analogue printed circuit boards and electrical equipment to approved test documentation
  • Investigating faults and repairing analogue electronics using bench meters, oscilloscopes and test equipment
  • Verifying test results through peer checks and evidence‑based reporting
  • Recording step‑by‑step fault investigations and corrective actions
  • Producing detailed technical and fault reports, including root cause identification

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Whetstone, Leicester.

Essential experience of the Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician - Test Bias
  • Demonstrable experience testing and fault‑finding electrical or electronic systems
  • Practical experience working with analogue printed circuit boards and discrete components
  • Confidence using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and bench meters
  • Ability to follow approved test procedures and accurately document results
  • Experience working in a quality‑focused technical or engineering environment
Qualifications for the Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician - Test Bias
  • Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent
  • HNC level study in relevant electrical or electronic modules is desirable
  • Additional testing or diagnostic qualifications would be advantageous
Security Clearance
