Job Description

The salary for this role is £54,376 (including a Specialist Allowance of £6,000), and onsite working is expected.

This role may involve working with radiological materials.

This position is based at Culham, Oxfordshire. Employees are required to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

As a senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer, you will lead testing and commissioning of RACE electrical systems, ensuring compliance with site requirements and safety standards. You will oversee installation of hardware and cabling for remote handling applications, such as control panels, cubicles, and harnesses, and support the Electrical Implementation Section Leader across the RACE portfolio. This role requires expertise in managing complex projects and leading teams.

This hands-on position may involve working on external sites, including international locations. The role demands producing high-quality documentation, delivering work within deadlines, demonstrating excellent workshop skills, and maintaining a flexible working attitude both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and assess technical documentation such as testing and commissioning procedures, safety assessments, and method statements, with responsibility for final sign-off
  • Provide quality assurance during and after equipment installation
  • Define and establish standards and best working practices
  • Manage testing and commissioning of equipment, ensuring work control documentation is followed
  • Supervise technicians during electrical installation, testing, and commissioning tasks
Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Completion of a full, time-served advanced apprenticeship in electrical installation and testing, preferably in an engineering sector
  • Formal electrical qualification above NVQ level 3 (HNC, HND, Beng are advantageous)
  • Hands-on installation experience in delivering complex electrical systems
  • Extensive experience in commissioning electrical systems, with a strong understanding of schematics and assembly drawings
  • Experience working in safety-critical environments, supervising technicians, and mentoring less experienced staff
