Job summary

University of Exeter invites applications for an Electrical Apprentice (Level 3) within the Estates Electrical Maintenance team at the Streatham Campus. The role starts September/October 2026 and combines hands-on work with academic study at Exeter College, alongside dedicated mentorship.

You will train in fault diagnosis, wiring installations, testing and commissioning while working with qualified electricians, the Chargehand and the Electrical Team Leader.

Qualifications

  • Enrolment in Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician course at Exeter College.
  • On‑the‑job training with qualified electricians in Estates Electrical Maintenance.
  • Develop fault finding, wiring, testing and commissioning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with fault diagnosis and electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out wiring installations, testing and commissioning under supervision.
  • Collaborate with Chargehand and Electrical Team Leader for guidance.
  • Work 36.5 hours over 5 days, including 1 day at Exeter College.

Estate Services - Maintenance Operations

This full-time post is available immediately on a permanent basis. Working 36.5 hours over 5 days Monday to Friday, including 1 day at Exeter College.

Summary of the Role

We are pleased to announce an opening for an Electrical Apprentice (Level 3) within our Estates Electrical Maintenance team, based at the Streatham Campus. Starting September/October 2026, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to kickstart your career.

You will be enrolled in the Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician course at Exeter College, combining high-quality academic training with hand-on professional experience. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop the practical skills necessary to succeed, including fault diagnosis, wiring installations, testing, and commissioning.

You will work directly alongside qualified electricians and receive dedicated support from our Chargehand and Electrical Team Leader, ensuring you have the mentorship needed to thrive in your professional journey.

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will have gained valuable skills, experience, and there may be opportunities to continue your career working at the University of Exeter.
