Job description

Help Deliver Democratic Services at the Heart of the City

The City of London Corporation is seeking an organised and detail-focused Electoral Services Officer to support the administration of elections and the maintenance of key electoral and civic databases.

Working within a small and committed team, you will play a central role in managing the Electoral Register, City of London Ward Lists, the City Occupiers Database (COD), and the Common Hall Register of Liverymen. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to vital democratic and electoral functions in one of the UK's most historic and high-profile local authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the annual canvass for the Electoral Register and City Occupiers Database survey
  • Process registration forms, postal vote applications, and respond to elector queries
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant electoral legislation
  • Support the planning and delivery of elections and related civic events
  • Carry out data entry, correspondence, and administrative duties in support of the team
  • Liaise with members of the public, businesses, elected Members, and internal departments
  • Help supervise and monitor casual canvass staff as required
  • Contribute to service improvement, system updates, and engagement strategies

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Strong administrative or clerical experience, ideally within a local authority or large organisation
  • A good level of IT skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A positive attitude towards customer service and working in a public-facing environment
  • An interest in electoral processes and willingness to undertake relevant training (e.g. AEA Certificate)
  • Knowledge of electoral registration legislation or previous experience in election administration would be an advantage but is not essential.
