An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced surgical nurse to join Ward 4B elective admissions.
The role supports elective activity, responsible for the coordination, planning, monitoring, and delivery of elective admissions across General Surgery, Urology, Breast, Bariatric, and ENT specialties. This role ensures patients are fully prepared for admission, supporting a safe and efficient journey through theatre and into post-operative recovery.
Working alongside the surgical and nursing teams in the Surgical unit, theatres, anaesthetics and pre-operative department, to ensure patients are safely admitted and discharged from the surgical unit.

Manage the elective admissions for inpatient and day case procedures. Ensuring patients have had necessary procedures and assessments prior to admission.
Working alongside the matron and operational services with bed allocation for elective admissions.
Reporting of any cancelled operations as per guidelines.
Acting as a point of contact for clinical teams in relation to elective admissions.
Communicating with patients on the day of admission, providing updates on bed allocation, place of theatre lists, and enforcing any preoperative instructions and expectations.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
