Job description

Due to significant growth at Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd UK, we are looking for an EHV Cable Engineering Manager to join our team. As an Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and bolstering our technical credibility with new and existing clients. Your responsibilities will include leading engineering delivery across multiple projects, ensuring timely preparation of quality deliverables within the allocated program and budget. You will play a crucial role in driving the success of a cohesive cable delivery team by harmonizing various technical disciplines to function as a unified entity.

At Wood, we support hybrid working, offering a blend of office and remote work. The role involves travel as needed and can be based at any of our UK offices, with a preference for Glasgow or Horsham.

Our team provides HV cable design supporting construction, procurement, and consultancy on a variety of projects within the sector. We have a growing and developing team that is building on its technical expertise.

Reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be an established engineering manager with substantial experience in delivering HV cable design solutions and demonstrated leadership and coordination of a mixed team including electrical, civil, and CAD resources to deliver successfully on time. This role will coordinate all aspects of HV cable design and communicate closely with internal construction teams and our external client teams. You will be a key member of the team shaping the next phase of the team’s development and significantly impacting the future growth of the business.

This opportunity will allow you to enhance your project management skillset and coordination capabilities across both cable and civil team delivery outcomes. In terms of career progression, you can advance to the Senior Engineering Manager role, and eventually reach the Head of Engineering level. Alternatively, you have the option to transition to the Head of Design discipline if you prefer a more technical pathway. Essential:

  1. Chartered Engineer or equivalent preferred.
  2. Substantial experience of delivering HV cable design solutions, leading a mixed team including electrical, civil, and CAD resources.
  3. Strong teamworking and organization abilities with honed communication skills.
  4. Understanding of key health and safety impacts on HV cable construction contracts.
  5. Fluent spoken and written English language.
  6. Ability to work as part of a dispersed and remote team and be able to communicate through collaboration software such as Microsoft Teams.

Desirable:

  1. Proven experience in working to British and European design standards and codes.
  2. Experience of providing engineering inputs to cable construction activities including the planning and delivery of the construction.
  3. Understanding of engineering management including schedule and cost management.
  4. Experience supporting tendering activities.
  5. Experience presenting technical outputs and supporting client engagements.
  6. Right to work in the UK.
