Job Title: EHS Senior Associate

Salary: £34,000 to £42,000 (depending on experience)

Location: Springvale, Northern Ireland

About LPSD

Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) manufactures gas and diesel gensets along with Drivetrain components globally.

Springvale Drivetrain, based in Belfast, is the sole manufacture of upper and lower drivetrain components for Articulated Trucks in Peterlee. Springvale assembly and test includes Axles, Transmission and Out Transfer Gears (OTG’s).

Job Summary

Working as part of the EHS team based in Springvale, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of retention of ISO14001 as well as playing a key role in safety improvements, analysis and incident investigation for a workforce of over 270 employees.

What You Will Do:

  • Drive world class health and safety culture initiatives throughout all departments

  • Champion the company's EHS strategy by embedding robust systems, policies, and procedures across the project lifecycle.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting and sustaining safe working practices across the site, and promoting the Safety Driven Strategy.

  • Manage incident reporting and investigations, ensuring root cause analysis, escalation to relevant stakeholders, and communication of lessons learned.

  • Conduct EHS site audits and inspections, generating actionable reports and ensuring timely resolution of any findings.

  • Coordinate 3rd party ISO14001 audit visits and help retain certification

  • Undertake 2nd party audits of waste contractors to ensure compliance with Duty of Care legislation

  • Coordinate EHS Management Reviews and governance

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant EHS statutory regulations, industry standards, and internal governance frameworks.

  • Liaise with NI Water, Local Council and NI Environment Agency as required

  • Complete reports for submission to government agencies

  • Assess engineering works to ensure EHS requirements are met

  • Develop and Support EHS Training programs including Environmental Awareness, Contractor Management, Duty of Care (Waste), Spill Response, HOP and Contractor Management

  • Support projects to ensure Corporate Sustainable Development metrics are achieved

  • Coordinate health monitoring, ensuring that results are analysed, action taken and findings cascaded

  • Facilitate emergency preparedness and response training

  • Maintain and manage all EHS-related registers, records, and documentation; produce detailed reports and present findings to senior management when required.

  • Support site teams in the development and dissemination of Toolbox Talks and EHS communications.

  • Arrange and promote health and wellbeing initiatives for employees.

What Skills You Have:

You could be an experienced EHS professional, with a proven track record in a manufacturing, production environment or similar environment. You will be confident in influencing and engaging teams at all levels, with the ability to balance hands-on operational involvement with strategic input.

  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross functional teams.

  • Strong planning & organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • A “can do” work ethic with excellent problem-solving skills.

Essential criteria:

  • Third-level qualification in Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline is essential - May substitute educational requirements in lieu of relevant experience

  • Good knowledge of EHS principles in the UK

  • Experience in developing and implementing health and safety programs and working with local authority regulators and partners

  • Demonstrable track record in managing EHS systems, audits, and regulatory compliance.

  • Working knowledge of relevant UK EHS legislation and industry best practices.

  • Hands on EHS experience
