Responsibilities

  • Manage risk assessment and method statement processes.
  • Record, report, investigate and analyse EHS events to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee site EHS inspections documentation and quality.
  • Advise management on legal exposure and EHS concerns of site decisions.
  • Define and implement EHS subcontractor audit program.

Job Description

  • Lead by example for others and provide full and active commitment in the deployment of the GE GSI EHS Policy "Our Commitment to EHS" and compliance to site EHS rules;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the site related rules defined in the Site CPP- EHS Plan, revise as necessary in agreement with the Project Director, and take appropriate actions in the event of non-compliance.
  • Manage all ongoing programs and action plans implemented by the sites for the protection of the environment, including permits for air emissions, hazardous waste management, and wastewater management.
  • Ensure full implementation of GE standards and procedures at site (EHS Directives, Work Instructions and Guidelines, EHS Roadmap standard, etc.);
  • Monitor fulfilment of EHS contractual requirements established with the Subcontractors;
  • Ensure full implementation of the risk assessment / method statement identification, preparation, review and communication processes;
  • Ensure that all site EHS events (accidents / incidents, near-misses, first aid cases, property damages, etc.) are recorded, reported, investigated and analyzed in due time to prevent recurrence;
  • Monitor quantity and quality of the site EHS inspections carried out by the site personnel;
  • Advise site management on legal exposure and EHS concerns related to any change or decision managed at site;
  • Define and implement an EHS Subcontractor audit program to monitor compliance with all relevant statutory, regulatory, contractual and the company requirements.
  • Monitor fulfilment of EHS contractual requirements established with the Subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain the EHS Project Governance and execution plans.

CDM Skills

  • Consult with GE Designers that the Project Director is suitably informed of the status of the project; liaising with the CDM duty holders (Principal Designer , Principal Contractor & Client) to ensure that GE fulfil their obligations under the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Ensure Design Risk Register reviews are completed by GE PDF Designers and GE Suppliers and submitted to NNB Principal Designer on a 3 monthly basis.
  • Deliver CDM Awareness training to GE PDG Designers and Project team so they can fulfill their obligations under CDM Regulations.
  • Provide CDM tutorials and support for GE Suppliers so they can fulfill their obligations under CDM Regulations.
  • Attend GE internal meetings as required to support and problem solve EHS issues and ensure that so far as reasonable practicable GE provides equipment and systems that are safe form risk of harm.

Profile

Skills Knowledge And Experience Required

  • EHS Assurance Leadership: Lead all project EHS assurance activities; develop and maintain the Project EHS Assurance Plan and governance framework. Manage and develop 2 x Project EHS Specialists. Provide independent, evidence-based EHS inputs to support Project Leadership decision-making and act as GE Vernova’s EHS assurance focal point with key stakeholders.
  • Mobilisation & Construction Readiness: Lead mobilisation readiness assessments for all principal work packages and conduct site readiness reviews. Verify welfare, first aid and emergency preparedness arrangements are adequate. Manage formal readiness gate reviews and hold point decisions.
  • Design Safety & CDM Assurance: Conduct CDM 2015 compliance reviews; provide assurance on duty holder performance. Review and challenge design risk registers and support interface management with the Principal Designer and Client CDM duty holders. Promote safe-by-design principles and elimination of hazards at source.
  • Constructability & Construction Risk: Lead constructability workshops during design development. Provide independent assurance of contractor EHS management arrangements throughout construction. Plan and conduct EHS audits, inspections and assurance reviews across project work packages.
  • Fire, Life Safety & Commissioning: Review fire strategies and life safety provisions at design and construction stages. Lead commissioning readiness reviews; verify EHS controls are in place before energisation. Support operational handover readiness.
  • Governance & Performance: Develop and maintain the EHS Governance Plan; maintain assurance dashboards covering readiness, audit performance and action close-out. Prepare executive-level EHS assurance reports for Project Leadership and client reporting.

Candidate Profile

  • Education & Qualifications: Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, EHS or equivalent. NEBOSH Diploma or recognised equivalent; Chartered status (CMIOSH or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience: Extensive EPC project delivery experience in the power, energy or infrastructure sectors. HVDC or high-voltage substation project experience desirable. Experience leading multidisciplinary EHS teams.
  • Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations and duty holder management. Demonstrable experience in design safety management, commissioning and energisation safety, and constructability review. Strong audit and independent assurance skills.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent stakeholder management; proven ability to influence without direct authority. Strong communication, facilitation and presentation skills. Experience in executive reporting to senior project and client leadership.
  • High proficiency in English (oral and written); proficient in MS Office.
  • Work Requirements:
    • Work Location: 100% onsite. The role requires regular attendance at both EGL1 Murton Converter Station, Murton, County Durham, SR7 8SA and EGL1 Torness Converter Station, East Lothian, Dunbar, EH42 1. The successful candidate will be expected to spend approximately 50% of their time at each site. Candidates must be willing and available to work across both locations. Ideally, the candidate will be based in a location that enables practical commuting access to both sites.
