Job summary

Adecco Group UK & Ireland is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager for an interim contract at our Heysham site. You will lead all EHS activities, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving continuous improvement across the operations.

Key responsibilities include maintaining EHS systems, leading risk assessments and incidents investigations, training, and reporting. The role requires strong leadership in a regulated industrial setting and collaboration with senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Significant EHS leadership experience in regulated industrial environments.
  • Experience with COMAH, environmental permitting, and waste management licensing.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Proven ability to lead EHS programmes and influence safety culture.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the site's EHS management systems and programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Act as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Support operational teams with risk assessments, audits, inspections, and safety initiatives.
  • Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting.
  • Drive behavioural safety programmes and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Provide EHS training, guidance, and technical expertise across the business.
  • Monitor and report EHS performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Manage EHS budgets and support sustainability initiatives.

Job description

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Location: Heysham

Job Type: Interim Contract

Duration: Minimum 3 months with potential for extension

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (08:00 - 16:00, flexibility available)

Rate: £31.00 per hour

The Role

As EHS Manager, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of environmental, health, and safety management across the site. Working closely with operational teams and senior leadership, you will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, develop and implement EHS strategies, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Managing and maintaining the site's EHS management systems and programmes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Acting as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Managing EHS budgets and supporting sustainability initiatives.
  • Keeping up to date with legislative changes and industry best practice.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have substantial EHS leadership experience within a regulated industrial environment.

Essential experience and skills:
  • Significant EHS management experience within industries such as chemical, oil & gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, waste management, or FMCG.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies on COMAH, environmental permitting, waste management licensing, or similar regulated environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Proven experience leading EHS programmes and influencing positive behavioural safety culture.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong accident investigation and root cause analysis experience.
  • Experience delivering training and coaching across all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong project management and leadership abilities.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma or NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • IOSH membership (Tech IOSH, Grad IOSH, or Chartered).
  • IEMA membership (Associate, Full Member, or Chartered).
  • Strong understanding of HSE and Environment Agency guidance and approved codes of practice.
