Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) Officer to coordinate EHCP processes for children and young people aged 0 to 25. The role is based in Sandwell Council House, Oldbury, with hybrid working and a permanent contract.

You will manage a caseload, draft legally compliant EHCPs, chair meetings, and work with families, schools and health professionals to ensure timely, outcome-focused support.

Qualifications

  • Coordinate Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments for 0–25
  • Draft and maintain EHCPs that are compliant and outcome-focused
  • Lead multi-agency meetings and chair planning meetings
  • Ensure statutory deadlines and legal compliance

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload across statutory SEND functions (assessments, reviews, complex cases)
  • Coordinate multi-agency contributions to EHNAs
  • Draft clear, accurate, legally compliant EHCPs
  • Act as named keyworker for children and families
  • Arrange and chair planning meetings and annual reviews
  • Work with schools, colleges, health professionals and stakeholders to meet deadlines
  • Analyse complex information to support decisions
  • Present cases to panels and support mediation, tribunals where required
  • Maintain electronic case records and data protection compliance
  • Provide advice to families, schools and professionals on SEND processes
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement
