Job description

NHS Grampian are delighted to accept applications from passionate, motivated children’s nurses, who have recently or will be registered by Sept 2025. We have permanent and temporary posts available. Hours are full time (37 hours, moving to 36 hours in April 2026) and part time, including flexible working.

We welcome applications from candidates who will have completed all make up time plus any academic and practice placement resits by 1st December 2025. If we have further vacancies later in the year there will be an opportunity for those who have not completed all elements to apply at the next round of New Graduate Nurse recruitment.

Candidates can include preferences for posts in specific areas (either by entering this on application in the ‘any other information’ section or discussion at interview). Only departments with vacancies will be able to take on New Graduates. Candidates’ preference for placements will be prioritised on interview scores i.e. those scoring highest at interview are allocated posts first. You will be notified of the outcome of the interview by 18th July. Successful Candidates will be informed of where their first placement is by early September 2025.

New graduates are actively encouraged to move to a second area in year two offering the opportunity to explore a breadth of experience. However, we will consider requests to remain in their initial post area.

The Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH) and the Neonatal Unit (NNU) are tertiary centres providing a comprehensive range of services for new-born babies, children and young people with a wide variety of health needs. The new build Baird family hospital is due for completion in the near future. A new state of the art NNU will be situated there. Our Paediatric service in Elgin supports a range of admissions from Moray.

Placements may be in any of the following locations but will depend on vacancies at the time

  • Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital
    • Emergency Care Unit (Assessment unit and Emergency Department)
    • Surgical
    • Medical
    • HDU
    • DCU/OPD
    • Haematology/Oncology & infusion bay
    • Theatres (2 year pathway only)
  • Neonatal Unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital
  • Homecare team (community locations)
  • Paediatric Ward Dr Gray’s

All NGNs will be supported to complete Flying Start NHS in their first year. NHS Grampian is committed to support further academic study at Master’s level.

Structure

Interviews will be held face to face at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. Hospital tours can be arranged on the day if you wish. There is also the opportunity to conduct interviews over Microsoft Teams on the same day if attending in person is difficult.

There will be a break out room available for you to visit after the interview offering refreshments and resources about

  • development opportunities in NHS Grampian,
  • Home Care service,
  • Magnet Recognition programme
  • We Care Team (wellbeing)
