About your new role

Our national Large Loss team provides expert legal services dealing with claims involving severe injuries and complex insurance work. Weightmans’ Large Loss team handles claims reserved at over £350,000, representing over £800 million of client reserves. The claims include Motor, employers’ liability, public liability, and product liability, involving cases such as brain, spinal, amputation injuries, and substantial dependency fatality claims.

We are currently recruiting for two Large Loss Lawyers: one with 0-3 years PQE and the other with 3-5 years PQE to join our team.

The successful candidates will manage their own workload and assist other lawyers.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist partners and manage own caseload of catastrophic and high-value PI cases.
2. Conduct initial investigations and report findings to clients or prepare internal strategy reports.
3. Review and analyze databases, conduct further investigations as needed.
4. Liaise with solicitors, insurers, police, HSE, and witnesses to gather evidence.
5. Instruct experts as appropriate.
6. Manage case diaries and action lists.
7. Attend court hearings when necessary.
8. Participate in conferences and JSMs as directed by a partner, with client approval.
9. Draft correspondence, reports, reserve sheets, and action plans.
10. Assist in supervising and developing junior team members.
11. Complete client and firm MI procedures.
12. Ensure compliance with Data Protection policies, CPR, and rehabilitation protocols.
13. Stay updated on legal developments in high-value personal injury.
14. Achieve financial and KPIs targets.
15. Meet deadlines and quality standards.
16. Adhere to Weightmans and client policies and procedures.
17. Uphold Weightmans’ values in all work.

About You

• 0-5 years PQE solicitor.
• Experience managing defendant personal injury litigation, preferably Motor or EL/PL. High-value Large Loss experience is a plus but not essential.
