Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse at MWL Acute Medical Unit

Join our team on the Acute Medical Unit at MWL! We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated registered nurses passionate about delivering compassionate, 5-star patient care. You will work within a multidisciplinary team caring for patients, with opportunities to enhance your clinical knowledge.

Our unique AMU includes an Enhanced Care Area (ECA) for Level 1 patients, including those from the emergency department requiring additional respiratory support or cardiac monitoring. Our nursing team is trained in advanced skills such as blood gases, ECG interpretation, and life support courses to uphold high standards of acute care.

We offer rotational posts with opportunities to work alongside colleagues in Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), providing care within the same day of patient arrival as an alternative to hospital admission. New staff will work with a practice educator on a tailored development program, including competency training, mentorship, and buddy support.

The environment is fast-paced and dynamic. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic individuals eager to develop their careers in medical nursing. Commitment to ongoing training and professional development is essential, with support through our preceptorship program and access to funding for further career pathway development.

Main Duties:
  1. Participate in assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating individualized patient care.
  2. Assist in patient admission, transfer, and discharge according to local policies.
  3. Contribute to standards of care and quality initiatives.
  4. Serve as departmental triage nurse, utilizing advanced assessment and decision-making skills.
  5. Maintain a caring, approachable, and professional manner.
  6. Promote safeguarding of vulnerable patients following policies.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Maintain professional registration and adhere to NMC Code of Practice.
  • Ensure nursing care aligns with clinical guidelines and infection control standards.
  • Report incidents and promote effective communication.
  • Manage departmental equipment and support achievement of performance indicators.
Teaching & Training:
  • Facilitate acquisition of Band 5 competencies.
  • Participate in teaching students and training staff, acting as mentor or preceptor.
Research & Audit:

Engage in research, audits, and projects to maintain and improve standards of care.
