The Role:

This role is part of our Sensor Systems Radar Business in Fareham.

Saab UK is recruiting for a number of ILS roles from a variety of backgrounds and skillsets.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Author to work in a close-knit team. The candidate will primarily be responsible for producing and maintaining system technical manuals to a recognised international standard. You will produce high-quality technical publications for a wide variety of equipment to a varied customer base within the Defence sector.

Responsibilities:

  1. Analyse, define and create technical publications to military specifications.
  2. Be responsible for the production and maintenance of customer-focused Technical Documentation.
  3. Produce and maintain product data sheets, service bulletins, and control documents and drawings used in technical manuals.
  4. Produce and distribute Engineering Advice Notes in accordance with Saab quality standards.
  5. Assist with training sessions at Saab facilities, customer sites, and remotely via digital platforms.
  6. Be amenable to regular national and international travel.
  7. Collaborate with the Training and Product Information Team to design and develop training programmes, and assist with the training of new staff on Saab UK products.
  8. Provide accurate and concise progress reports on request.
  9. Work within budget and to a pre-defined delivery schedule.
  10. Communicate with customers, engineers, and SMEs, developing knowledge to create technical documentation.
  11. Keep up to date with prevailing documentation standards and practices.
  12. Adhere to internal processes and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Proven track record of developing and producing technical documentation for electronic-based systems.
  2. Proficiency in using single-source authoring software, and familiarity with online learning authoring tools.
  3. Familiarity with the S1000D standard, the international specification for technical publications using a common source database.
  4. Competency in Microsoft applications.
  5. Experience with sensor or radar systems or similar.
  6. Hold a recognised Training qualification.
  7. Proficiency in producing digital media for training purposes.
  8. Familiarity with graphic design and 3D rendering software.

  1. Work efficiently and professionally within the team and company.
  2. Maintain professionalism when interacting with customers.
  3. Undertake any other duties within competence as required by the Manager/Team Leader.
