An opportunity has arisen for a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the mortuary team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as the Deputy Mortuary Manager.
The post has been established to support the Mortuary Service Manager & work within the team of APT's & MEO's in the organisation of a safe, secure, effective & comprehensive mortuary, post mortem & Medical Examiner's office/service for the needs of the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust & the wider community.
Applicants should hold the RSPH/RIPHH, Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (or level 3 & level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology) & ideally have 5 years post Diploma/Level 4 mortuary experience, they should be registered with the Academy for Healthcare Sciences &/or possess Science Council Registration; they should be a member of the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technologists. They will be required to have a good understanding of medical terminology so they can work with the MEO's to provide an all-encompassing service for the bereaved.
The successful candidate will be expected to show a high degree of professionalism, have a compassionate, empathetic and mature attitude and be vigilant of the strict confidentiality policy required for the post; they will be required to participate in an on-call rota for out of hours APT duties.
Main duties of the jobAll mortuary staff play a part in the death certification process; the APT's are pivotal to this service by providing technical assistance, dissection skills and input to the post mortem examination service; they will also be undertaking external examinations of deceased as applicable to the Medical Examiner's Services, and where appropriate, work alongside the MEO's who will provide a specific conduit for bereaved families. The Chief APT/Deputy Mortuary Manager will assist with all processes relating to handling of the deceased from admission to release, upkeep of records and databases and assist with all post mortem room duties as directed by the Service Manager & Pathologist.
