Job summary
This role is to provide consultant services to support the Breast Reconstructive service based at the Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH). We are a major centre for patients undergoing both immediate and delayed breast reconstruction following cancer, as well as for risk reducing surgery with immediate reconstruction. QVH is an integral part of the Kent and Medway Cancer Network and has links to surrounding Cancer Networks. There is an on-site team comprising Consultant Plastic Surgeons, Consultant Anaesthetists, Breast Care Nurses, Psychologists, Theatre / Recovery and Ward Staff, all with expertise in caring for patients undergoing complex free flap breast reconstruction.
The successful candidate will have experience of, and an interest in, both microsurgical breast reconstruction and lower limb trauma. Candidates are expected to actively contribute to the management, teaching, audit and research activities of the department. Clinics and Theatre sessions will be provided at QVH.
The job plan provides scheduling details of the clinical activity and clinically related activity components of the job plan that occur at regular times in the week. Note that in line with Government and NHS objectives, QVH is working towards the provision of seven-day services. This will affect the working lives of most consultant staff and we expect that consultants will approach this need in a collaborative fashion.
