Position Details

Base Location: Successful applicants must be based in one of our Scottish locations: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 plus car/car allowance, performance-related bonus, and a range of benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent, Full-Time, with flexible options available.

The Role

As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio, we offer an opportunity for a Structural/Civil OHL Engineer to join our Offshore AC Project Engineering team. This team will help advance our Island projects and deliver a network for Net Zero, including connecting to HVDC systems with state-of-the-art AC plant, grid control, and stabilization technology.

You Will
  1. Prepare and review designs during development and execution phases, such as route selection, substation tie-ins, and diagram staging.
  2. Promote best practices in OHL design and installation, suggesting improvements in specifications, technology options, and risk management.
  3. Manage safety within projects by implementing CDM procedures, ensuring compliance with company, HSE, and industry standards.
  4. Deliver engineering on projects typically valued between £50m and £100m, working closely with project management teams to identify and mitigate risks and ensure successful delivery.
You Have
  1. Experience working on transmission networks, with specific knowledge of overhead lines, development, design, and specifications, capable of assessing technical issues and solutions.
  2. Understanding of relevant legislation such as CDM & ESQCR and its implications for asset and project management.
  3. Effective communication skills to clearly articulate complex technical issues to senior management.
  4. Confidence in engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally, and building strong relationships.
  5. Ideally, a Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or related engineering discipline, and Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
