Job Purpose
To assist in the efficient and economical running of the pharmacy service by dispensing prescriptions in accordance with departmental policies and maintaining accurate stock levels of pharmaceutical products in wards and departments, including Pharmacy.
Responsibilities
- Undertake in-patient, discharge, and out-patient dispensing using the Pharmacy Computer System, following departmental policies and procedures.
- Assist in stock management within the dispensary by maintaining accurate stock levels, completing daily stock take sheets, and performing general housekeeping duties such as tidying shelves and reshelving medicines.
- Support ward/departmental topping-up services to ensure the availability of appropriate pharmaceutical products and consumables for healthcare personnel.
- Regularly check expiry dates of stock, ensure proper stock rotation and storage conditions, maintain logs, and report exceptions to the Principal/Senior Technician.
- Monitor and log fridge temperatures daily, reporting any anomalies to the Senior Technician.
- Prepare, update, and print computerized lists for stock issues for relevant clients.
- Maintain accurate records using the Pharmacy Computer System, including prescriptions, requisitions, and pharmaceutical information.
- Requisition stock from the Pharmacy Store as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy work environment.
- Assist in collecting performance, workload, and audit data as required.
- Participate in departmental meetings to develop and improve pharmaceutical services and procedures.
- Rotate duties with other dispensing assistants, student technicians, and technicians to maximize efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities
- Work within Trust and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Work on other Trust sites by agreement.
- Undertake additional duties as required, consistent with the role.
- Maintain confidentiality and only release information in an official capacity.
- Treat patients and customers with dignity and courtesy.
- Ensure medicines are secure from unauthorized access.
- Take responsibility for health, safety, and welfare, complying with relevant regulations including COSHH.
