Position: Receptionist/Family Services Caseworker

Department: Social Services

Availability of Position: April 4, 2025

Schedule: Full time - Monday thru Friday 8:30am TO 4:30pm

Reporting Relationship: Corps Officers/Social Services Director

Salary/Grade: $15.00 per hour; Non-Exempt, 72

Position Overview: The Receptionist/Family Services Caseworker greets visitors, answers phones, and provides administrative support to ensure the office runs smoothly by scheduling meetings, handling mail, and keeping things organized. This role also involves managing a caseload of clients seeking social services for individuals and families, providing assistance to eligible clients, and assisting with the UGI application process. Fluency in Spanish is essential as the majority of constituents are Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities
  • Office duties include answering phones, filing, writing inter-office communications, preparing mass mailings, and designing event flyers.
  • Assist clients in Customer Assistance Program, Operation Share, and other programs.
  • Ensure all UGI/CAP/Operation Share programs are effectively conducted, and that all follow-up phone calls and applications are properly processed.
  • Assist with food bank duties.
  • Assist with emergency food and clothing duties.
  • Assist clients in Christmas assistance and back-to-school backpack giveaway programs.
  • Make referrals to other social service agencies and community-based mental health and substance abuse treatment centers.
  • Work with Corps Officers and Corps Pastoral Care Team to provide needed pastoral care for families and individuals receiving social services.
  • Perform general office duties such as answering phones, transferring messages, filing, and data/statistics gathering.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in social work or a similar discipline.
  • Bilingual (Able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360 apps such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others.
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment, with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
