Art and Design Lecturer Position at MidKent College

Due to growth at MidKent College Medway Campus and Medway School of Arts in The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, we are recruiting several Art and Design lecturers. These roles involve teaching courses from L1 to L5 on Foundation Degree/HND Programmes, covering a diverse range of skills including fine art, fashion design, graphics, and digital media.

We seek candidates with a digital arts background capable of designing, delivering, and assessing high-quality creative programmes across FE and HE courses at Medway School of Art, including adult education leisure courses focusing on digital media and technology. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software is essential. The ideal candidate will inspire students through outstanding teaching strategies that challenge and motivate.

Applicants should be dynamic, highly skilled, and experienced, with industry experience or a postgraduate degree in their subject area. A passion for teaching and developing students’ employability skills within their field is crucial.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

The following list indicates the main priorities of this role as directed by the Deputy Principal, Assistant Principal, or Director, and is not exhaustive:

  1. Teaching: Deliver high-quality teaching according to college standards, prepare materials, develop curricula, assess student work, monitor progress, and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  2. Course Management: Handle day-to-day course duties including communication, timetable management, organizing work experience, liaising with departments, and ensuring compliance across sites.
  3. Recruitment and Induction: Assist with student recruitment, manage enrolments, and organize induction programs.
  4. Student Support: Conduct meetings, set and review targets, support UCAS applications, and address pastoral needs.
  5. Monitoring and Reporting: Track attendance, results, and progress; implement action plans as needed.
  6. English and Maths Support: Promote and support English and Maths learning, including monitoring attendance and engagement.
  7. Meetings and Collaboration: Attend and contribute to various meetings and events, coordinate parent evenings, and collaborate with colleagues.
  8. Course Development: Develop courses, training materials, and participate in professional development activities.
  9. Administration: Complete administrative tasks such as updating registers, reports, and online resources.
  10. Quality Assurance: Engage in quality assurance processes including verification, moderation, and course reviews.

Additional responsibilities for lecturers on SPS points 5–8 include internal verification, resource coordination, and liaising with higher education institutions.
