  • East Suffolk Council, Melton (IP12 1RT) or Lowestoft (NR33 OEQ)
  • Year 1 - £16,340 per annum; Year 2 - £22,070 per annum (NLW)
  • 37 hours per week
  • 21 month training contract
  • Required from 15 September 2025

A unique opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic apprentice to join East Suffolk Council as an Administration Apprentice in our Housing Policy Team.

Your role

The role consists of working as part of a small, supportive team within East Suffolk Council's Housing Service, where you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to meaningful work that supports our local communities.

As a Housing Policy Apprentice, you will assist experienced colleagues in the development and implementation of housing policies and help to drive forward an Improvement Plan that ensures compliance with the Social Housing Regulation Act.

You will gain practical skills through a range of responsibilities, including: undertaking general administrative tasks; liaising with Officers across the Housing teams, supporting policy research, assisting with drafting policies and procedures and monitoring Improvement Plans. You will develop a solid understanding of housing policy and regulation, while building valuable experience in a local government setting.

You will need:

You will need to have excellent interpersonal skills, an aptitude for ICT and ideally 4 GCSEs at Grades 4 -9 or Grade C and above (or equivalent), including English and Maths. No previous experience is required, as full training will be provided, however a passion to be a positive and professional ambassador for the council and provide the best experience for our customers is a must.

Apprenticeship open evening!

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding two open evenings at our Melton and Lowestoft offices. This will give you the opportunity to find out more about East Suffolk Council's apprenticeship scheme, learn more about each of our available opportunities direct from the placement managers and ask any questions you have. The open evenings are taking place on the following dates -

  • 13 May 2025, 5.30pm - 7.00pm at the East Suffolk House offices (Riduna Park, Station Road, Melton, Woodbridge IP12 1RT)
  • 21 May 2025, 5.30pm - 7.00pm at the Riverside Offices (4 Canning Road, Lowestoft, NR33 0EQ)
