Are you a Learning Disability or mental health nurse passionate about supporting people with a learning disability through their inpatient journey?

The NHS Fife Complex and Critical Care services - Learning Disability service has exciting opportunities for registered Learning Disability or Mental health nurses to join their inpatient teams. These teams are dedicated to providing the highest quality of life outcomes, support, and rehabilitation to individuals from admission to discharge.

Mayfield Assessment and Treatment, a 14-bed unit, and Tayview, a 2-bed bespoke unit supporting individuals over 18 with learning disabilities, mental health issues, and behaviors that challenge, are part of the Fife nursing team comprising senior charge nurses, charge nurses, staff nurses, and healthcare support workers.

As part of the team, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care to meet the health and well-being needs of individuals with learning disabilities, additional support needs, and challenging behaviors, under the guidance of Senior Nurses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Comprehensive nursing and health care assessments
  • Health screening and referrals
  • Risk assessments
  • Mental health assessments
  • Multidisciplinary planning and treatment implementation
  • Supervision of junior staff
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant 1st level nursing qualification; Registered Nurse in Learning Disabilities or Mental Health
  • Knowledge of current legal frameworks supporting inpatient care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups
  • Highly motivated and conscientious
  • Experience in care planning for complex health needs
  • Flexibility to meet service demands
  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support
  • Understanding of risk assessments
