Job description

Band 5 Diagnostic Radiographer - with Preceptorship

Due to ongoing Radiographer development through preceptorship, vacancies have arisen for Band 5 Radiographers to join our plain film team. As part of this role, Radiographers will be working in a range of specialties with rotation through our emergency department, orthopaedic clinics, pain and endoscopy unit, theatre and also our new interventional suite.

The Radiology department has an established preceptorship program, specifically designed to develop the skills of newly qualified Radiographers allowing automatic progression following the successful completion of a 12 – 18-month preceptorship period.

During preceptorship, Radiographers will be gradually introduced through development to working at spoke sites autonomously.

As a progressive teaching department for Radiographers, we have established links to universities and actively encourage CPD and role extension, with support available to pursue academic courses and develop your career within a supportive and friendly environment.

Our department offers excellent training and development opportunities with funding available for a variety of courses. We currently have staff undertaking post graduate training in Ultrasound, Plain Film reporting, Mammography, Fluoroscopy PG cert reporting (barium swallow), the Henley Business Management degree apprenticeship, as well as attendance on a variety of study days.

Applicants must be adaptable and be prepared to work evenings, nights and weekends as part of a seven-day service delivery and also to work at satellite units.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment.

The department boasts 10 general rooms including 2 in a dedicated orthopaedic department, 2 within a busy and exciting A/E unit, and an additional compact system within the ED – Minor Injury Unit expansion. All rooms have full DR capability.

Our busy Radiology department carries out a wide range of general and specialist examinations. We have recently been awarded the title ‘University Department of Radiology’ for our involvement in research and education through the University of Reading.

The Radiology department is proud to have been awarded accreditation with the Quality Standard for Imaging Quality Mark. The department actively encourages all staff to participate in quality improvement and audit and to support the service with achieving accreditation.

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of hospital services for the population of Reading, Newbury, Wokingham and the towns and villages of west Berkshire.

At our heart we are a local hospital that works with NHS and social care partners to provide excellent healthcare services for over 500,000 people who currently live in our catchment area. We employ more than 5,500 staff from 39 different nationalities and deliver care from a network of facilities across sites in Bracknell, Henley-on-Thames, Reading, Thatcham and Windsor. We also provide specialist hospital services beyond the county’s borders.

Applicants must currently reside in the UK.

We are happy to recruit students qualifying in summer 2025, with intentions to start working by autumn 2025.

We hope that all invited candidates will attend for a face-to-face interview. In extenuating circumstances, remote interviews may be requested and accommodated on a case-by-case basis.
