Join us as a specialist delivering and leading pivotal client facing roles who will need to demonstrate interpersonal and relationship building skills in additional to relevant industrial experience. You will be working on complex industrial sites and assessing their current state of utilities and a significant volume of work will be integrating the latest new technology for low and zero carbon solutions into these facilities together with developing their sustainability road maps and frameworks. You’ll be part of a dynamic and growing team specialising in sustainability and climate change.

Some recent project commissions include:

  • Developing complex offsetting strategies involving carbon removal technologies for hard to abate sectors and ensuring it is part of a credible pathway to reaching their climate goals;
  • Developing F gas strategies to help inform overall decarbonisation targets including trajectory reductions, F has phase downs, regional market considerations, refrigeration availability, and PFAS phase out;
  • Ensuring significant process mass and energy balance data is available as this data is key for proper allocation of energy and emissions burden for whole life carbon assessments particularly to distinguish between operational and capital emissions;
  • Utility master planning and energy strategies that provide a road map for current and future operations and management for site utilities infrastructure with a particular focus on the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors; and
  • Developing complex energy models that operate within a bandwidth of consumptions so as to account for changes in buildings and process loads, including upgrades in technology and site expansions/contractions.

A little more about your role…

  • Practical knowledge of utilities systems including boilers & steam plants, refrigeration & cooling systems, compressed air systems, water treatment & HVAC
  • Experience and keen interest in sustainability, renewable energy, energy reduction and efficiency projects
  • An understanding of the ever-changing carbon market and initiatives such as RE100, SBTi and GHG Initiative etc.
  • Delivering technical work across some or all of the areas described above, and production of outputs (reports, workshops, briefing notes, carbon/energy models)
  • Analysing and researching clients’ sustainability and climate change challenges and using best practice tools and approaches to provide industry-leading advice
  • Development of strategies / master plans for site facilities and systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of capital planning and approval processes
  • Building business cases to support investment proposals
  • Analysing, manipulating and interpreting quantitative carbon data (e.g. in materiality assessment, carbon action plan) in line with best practice such as ISO14044 and GHG Protocol.
  • Project management and in some cases being the Project Director
  • Representing WSP at industry events, and contributing to a technical area of thought-leadership to help position us in the marketplace (you may have, or could develop a particular area)
  • Leading the preparation of A-class quality proposals, outputs for clients, capability and strategic documents
  • Embracing the #FutureReady mantra at WSP, influencing talking with clients, influencing colleagues and stakeholders and integrating that thinking into our sustainability work

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience in a professional business environment, for instance in consultancy, as part of an in-house team or other relevant organisation working in this field
  • Experience of interacting with clients’ senior manager/executive levels
  • Experience of delivering projects, developing strategy or implementing change across some of the sustainability topic areas described above
  • Line management experience
  • Applied knowledge of UK and international legislation, sustainability frameworks and guidance and best practice in relation to these topic areas (particularly, SBT, CDP and IS04064)
  • A relevant degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and chartership/membership of professional institutions
  • Fully competent in conducting numerical analyses in Excel, and the production of concise, impactful written/presentation outputs to communicate to clients
  • Experience of life cycle assessment (LCA) would be advantageous.
  • Skills in assessing the feasibility of renewable and low carbon energy solutions.
